Rotarian Jim Goodwin has been collecting aluminum tabs that he delivers periodically to the Elora Legion. Here is some background on the program:
The Programme now is its 25th year has been an outstanding success, thans to the Elora Legion. Aluminum tabs arrive at the Elora Legion from all across Canada. The proceeds of the sale of the aluminum are used to purchase wheelschairs. These are provided at no cost to the recipient and are distributed across Canada.
The Gravenhurst Legion is a collection dopot.
As of May, 2012, 1475 wheelchairs have been donated.
This is an excerpt from the Wellongton Advertisor, from August 29, 2008:
…. The tabs themselves come from all over. Entrie scholls collect them. So do factories. Truckers have been known to drive out of theri way to pick them up, and over hundreds of miles, they slowly make their way from across the continent to Elora, where they are cleaned, sorted, weighed and sold.
Remember to get you and your family collecting the tabs. Jim is always willing to take more down!.
