The Rotary Club of Gravenhurst has always been a proud supporter of our local hospital.
A new need has arisen at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. This brand new Simcoe Muskoka Cancer Centre will service the District of Muskoka and expects to treat 65,000 patients in its first year of operation. To assist cancer patients Rotary House was envisioned and built..
This is a 40 bed facility available to any cancer patient in our area who needs to travel more than 40 kms for radiation therapy. Patients may stay at no charge when undergoing the normal 6 weeks of radiation (Monday-Friday) This Cancer Center also has a beautiful bright and spacious 35 beds for chemotherapy patients.
The Rotary Clubs of Simcoe/Muskoka have pledged almost 1.5 million dollars to this important new facility. On behalf of our town and our citizens the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst has been proud to be part of this endeavour to ensure any cancer patients receive expert care closer to home.
On May 24 of this year a joint Rotary meeting of all those district clubs who participated in this excellent fundraising and worthwhile endeavour met at the new facility. A photo of a few of the Gravenhurst Rotarians who attended this meeting is attached.
Fundraising dollars are always in demand and needed and it is a privilege for our club to be involved in Rotary Place.
